The Buenos Aires Legislature distinguished journalist Jorge Lafauci as a Distinguished Personality of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires in the field of Culture at an emotional ceremony held this morning in the Alfonsín hall. The recognition is due to his extensive career of over five decades in entertainment journalism, radio, television, and his significant contribution to Argentine popular culture. According to Argentine News Agency, the project was spearheaded by Deputy Berenice Iañez. The event was attended by various cultural personalities, such as producer Carlos Rottemberg, who did not hesitate to express a few words to the honoree: 'Jorge belongs to that era when publishers rescued the best from artists, helping them grow and reach the public in the most empathetic way possible. Jorge is a storyteller of popular culture. A vocation to communicate with meaning, caring for the works, the actors, and the actresses. Jorge is a worker; we are here to recognize a tireless worker in the media with over 50 years of labor.' He began his career at the newspaper Crónica and went on to edit and write for renowned publications such as TV Guía, Radiolandia, and Antena. He worked at various publishers like Perfil and Atlántida, and was a columnist for the newspapers La Razón, La Nación, and Crónica. 'Not so much for having worked together, but as a recognition of an era that he carried with great nobility. Today it seems that exacerbating the worst in each other is what gives more ratings or followers.' María Cristina Álvarez Rodríguez, former Minister of Government of the Province of Buenos Aires and great-niece of Eva Perón, added: 'Thank you, Jorge.' In turn, Deputy Berenice Iañez celebrated the recognition: 'I grew up with TV Guía at home. That's why I said yes to participating in this tribute and recognition for Jorge. Thank you all for being here, and especially to María Cristina.' Emotionally moved by the words of his colleagues, the honoree thanked those present: 'I want to thank you because at this moment my whole family and so many friends are here. Not everything about the past was better, but in the case of entertainment journalism, it had a very different nuance from the current one, and I liked that more.' 'We come to honor the star, the entertainment journalist, to recognize a career, but above all, we come to celebrate his vocation.' Born in 1943, Jorge Lafauci is a journalist, broadcaster, writer, and teacher, graduated in Letters from the Faculty of Philosophy of the UBA. With great skill, he told us what was happening in the world of entertainment. While on television, he participated in various cycles, such as: 'I Love TV', 'Your Best Saturday', 'Your Best Sunday', 'Blessed TV', and 'Dancing for a Dream.' He was also president of APTRA (Association of Argentine Television and Radio Journalists) from 1984 to 1995, and is currently a member of that entity and ACE. In addition, he is the author of several books, including 'The Argentine Woman Before and After Eva Perón' (1975) and 'A Century of Secrets in Show Business' (2017).
